The January Pioneer Bookshop Choice

The club members are reading their choice of books by Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Junot Diaz.   Diaz will be visiting Grinnell College on February 13, 2017.  A reading will be held at 7 pm in the Rosenfield Center, Room 101.  

Titles:
The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, winner of the Purlitzer Prize.

Drown, a collection of short stories.

This is How You Lose Her, more short stories.

The discussion will be at 7 pm on Thursday, February 2 at the Pioneer Bookshop, 933 Main Street, Grinnell.




The December Book

The December club choice is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

Despite his overwhelming fear of interaction with people, Christopher, a mathematically gifted, autistic fifteen-year-old boy, decides to investigate the murder of a neighbor's dog and uncovers secret information about his mother.

Mark Haddon is a writer and illustrator of numerous award-winning children's books and television screenplays.  As a young man, Haddon worked with autistic individuals.  He teaches creative writing for the Arvon Foundation and lives in Oxford, England.

This book received the Whitbread Book of the Year and is a New York Times Notable Book.
