Colorful is the word that best describes the life of writer Larry Baker. He has been a Pinkerton security guard, master-of-ceremonies at a burlesque club, the owner of an Oklahoma drive-in theater, and is now an acclaimed author. For the past thirty years he has lived in Iowa City, raised his family, and played an active role in the community. Baker’s books have put Iowa on the map, both in the literal and literary sense. It goes without saying that Baker’s talent extends beyond writing. For years he has taught history at Iowa City’s Kirkwood Community College and guest lectured at the University of Iowa. He is also a regular at Iowa City’s Prairie Lights bookstore readings and book signings. Other books by Larry Baker are The Flamingo Rising, Love and Other Delusions, A Good Man and Athens America.
Author Larry Baker will read from, discuss and autograph his books at the Pioneer Bookshop, 823 Fourth Ave in Grinnell. The event is open to the public.
